At Golborne Community Primary School, we believe in leading healthy and active lifestyles. We have a range of opportunities for our children to be active through the day, from Daily Mile, active lunchtimes, to our PE curriculum and school competitions. We also have healthy break and lunchtime snacks and water bottles, learn about the benefits of eating healthy, leading active lifestyles, and ways to improve our mental health. It is important that our children have as many opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles so ultimately, they can make informed decisions and understand the importance of being healthy.
Please see attached the following curriculums – Design Technology, PE, PSHE and Science– and the links to Healthy Schools. It is important to link the aforementioned curriculums, so children understand the effects of eating healthy and exercise (PE; Science), what consists of a healthy diet (DT; Science) and how to promote mental wellbeing (PSHE).
In addition to Daily Mile and Active Lunchtimes, children have the opportunity to be active through their weekly PE lessons, which promotes physical activity. Our Sequenced Curriculum, and the use of Complete PE, ensure that our weekly PE lessons facilitate high-quality Physical Education.
At lunchtimes, children have a plethora of opportunities to be involved in our active stations, such as Trim Trail, Outdoor Gym, Football, Structured Play ran by our Sports Leaders, Table Tennis. 100% of our children are involved in these at lunchtimes, and 100% of our children are involved in Daily Mile, every day. We aim to increase the number of children attending lunchtime clubs and sport competitions, so all of our children participate in an active club of their choice.
In addition, the Sports Leaders, help assist, organise, and set up the equipment and breaks and lunchtimes.
As you know, we promote and challenge each pupil to travel sustainably (walk, wheel, scoot, cycle or Park and Stride) to school every day, and not just for one week a year.
Along with our PE & School Sport offer, Daily Mile, active lunchtimes, weekly PE lessons and sporting competitions – all of which promote active lifestyles. Please see on the document below of a list of community clubs for your children to access, outside of school which may stem from the provision we provide for the children. If you do use this list, please contact Mr. Billinge.
