Throughout the year, as a school, we celebrate and learn about the six main world religions and their festivals and celebrations. This develops our pupils spiritually and teaches them to be respectful of all faiths and beliefs. Please see below for our Calendar of Religious Festivals and Celebrations 2025-2026.
A family from our school community shared with the children how their family celebrated the Hindu festival Diwali. The children told us that Diwali is the festival of light, why it is celebrated and the exciting things they did as a family.
Year 6 delivered an assembly about the Jewish festival, Rosh Hashanah. The children performed a dance and shared reading to show the res of the school what the festival is, who celebrates it and how and why it is celebrated today.
The children in Year 1 had a special visit from Reverend Helen from St Thomas’ Church. She taught the children all about Baptism and why this is important to Christians. The children then had a go at baptising their toy which they had brought in from home.
The Year 4 team performed a role play about the Christian festival of Christmas. The children showed our school about the parts of Advent, the Christmas story and The Epiphany and how these are celebrated.
The Year 5 team created a performance and shared a poem about the Sikhism celebration, Gurpurab. The children children shared how it celebrated the birth of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh leaders and why it is important to the religion Sikhism.
The Year 6 children put together a performance about the Jewish celebration, Rosh Hashana. The children could explain how and why it is celebrated and how it is important to the religion of Judaism.
The Year 1 team performed a role play to explain what the Christian festival, Pentecost, is all about. The children used props to show how the Holy Spirit visited Jesus’ Disciples.
The Year 2/1 team shared how Jewish people celebrate the festival of Shavuot. The children performed a song and shared readings.
The Year 2 team and a family in our school community, shared with us how Muslims celebrate the Islam festival, Ramadan.
The Year 3 team looked at the religion Christianity and discussed Palm Sunday. They created and performed a role play and shared readings. Palm Sunday starts Holy Week for Christians, which takes place at Easter!
The children delivered a Spiritual Assembly linked to the religion Buddhism and discussed Nirvana Day. They created and performed a song, shared readings and lead a whole school meditation. Nirvana Day celebrates Buddha’s end of the cycle of death and rebirth.
The whole school learnt about the Christian tradition of Christingle. The children created their own and competing this activity the understood what each part represents.
The Year 4 team focused on the religion Christianity and the celebrations of Advent, The Christmas Story and The Epiphany. The children worked really hard when rehearsing the role play and showed resilience and empathy throughout.
The Year 6/5 team and a Year 6 child, led the assembly about the Hindu festival, Diwali to the whole school. The children explained how people who follow this religion celebrate this special festival. The children showed lots of respect and empathy throughout.
The Year 5 team led the assembly about the Sikhism festival, Guru Nanak Gurpurab. The children explained how people who follow Sikhism celebrate the special festival and showed the children some of the religious symbols linked to this festival.
