Our School Ambassadors play an important role – they provide a meaningful way for pupils to voice their thoughts and opinions about our school. It means they can have their views listened to and be involved in important decisions which impact upon them. This in turn builds their character. This year’s School Ambassadors have again been chosen using the Fundamental British Value of democracy. All pupils participated in a session to understand how we use democracy in Modern Britain and then applied this to electing their class School Ambassadors. The School Ambassadors meet on a regular basis to discuss pupil suggestions, our curriculum and organise key events.
Through providing our pupils with various ‘Roles and Responsibilities’ across school, we develop our pupils to be responsible, respectful and active citizens who are able to play their part and become actively involved in public life as adults.
As School Ambassadors this year, we have had the vital role of speaking to our own classes to gather their views on how to improve lunchtimes. Our classes’ viewpoints were listened to and as School Ambassadors – in our phases – we have made some important decisions. After summing up the opinions of our classmates, it is our pleasure to announce that we will be adding a trim trail and an outdoor exercise gym to make our learning and lunchtimes even better. This will also provide us with further opportunities to be physically active throughout the school day.
We are delighted to announce that, following a fair and transparent application process, our new Head Boy and Head Girl have been democratically elected by both staff and pupils—demonstrating our school’s strong commitment to the British Value of democracy. All candidates showed great ambition and courage by speaking confidently in front of the whole school, a clear example of individual liberty and a willingness to take on responsibility within our school community.
We are proud to introduce our newly elected student leaders:
Poppy and Jacob-Lee
We would like to extend our thanks to all the children who applied. Each applicant demonstrated individual liberty in putting themselves forward, mutual respect in supporting one another, and a shared commitment to upholding the values of our school community. Every candidate was a credit to themselves and reflected the principles that underpin our school and the Fundamental British Values we promote daily.

Our School Ambassadors were invited to the Mayoral Chambers in Wigan Town Hall. The children met with the Mayor in his Parlour Room and discussed the importance of his role within the Wigan Borough then the children went into the Council Chamber and had the opportunity to hold a council. It was a fantastic opportunity for our School Ambassadors to see the relevance of their role in school and how it is similar to the role of the Mayor.
“I had a once in a lifetime experience going to meet the Mayor. It was amazing to see the environment in which the Mayor holds his council meetings. It was fantastic to see how a real council meeting is so similar to how we, as Ambassadors hold our school council meetings.” Sophia Year 6
‘It was astonishing to meet the Mayor. I was amazed to hear how the Mayor holds elections to make decisions similar to how we vote in school to make decision for the children and how to make to keep making our school the best. It was great to see how an Ambassador role links closely to the role of the Mayor.” Kayden Year 6
The School Ambassadors Our School Ambassadors have spent the afternoon at the mayor’s parlour for afternoon tea and tour of the council chambers. We loved this experience and learning all about democracy.
The School Ambassadors worked as a fantastic team when exploring and planning the different activities, prizes and resources for the Christmas Fayre. The children enjoyed ordering the prizes, being creative when creating props and being Father Christmas’ little helpers when preparing gifts for the children.
Our School Ambassadors had a great time visiting the Mayor of Wigan at the council chamber. They experienced democratic voting with some difficult decisions. Our School Ambassadors also experienced the Mayoral Office and enjoyed afternoon tea in the parlour!
The School Ambassadors enjoyed meeting today linked to the school menu. The children thought of some great ways in which we can make our menu even healthier. They were delighted we could action one of their requests from today.
Our School Ambassadors have a key role as well-being champions this year. They are working hard to develop pupils’ confidence, resilience and knowledge so that they can keep themselves mentally and physically healthy. Their role is primarily at lunchtimes where they are available as ‘buddies’ for their peers.
They have played a vital part in the school achieving the ‘Wellbeing Award for Schools’ awarded by the Mayor of Wigan.
Our School Ambassadors have decided to introduce termly debate days for pupils in Key Stage 2 to develop everyone’s knowledge of our British parliamentary system whilst also improving our speaking and listening skills! The School Ambassadors are responsible for selecting the ‘motions’ for debate.
The selected motion for Autumn Term – Should primary school children be required to wear school uniform?
Soon, our School Ambassadors will also be visiting The Office of the Mayor located in the Wigan Town Hall, where the Council Chamber is also located, to develop their knowledge of democracy and the roles within our British parliament even further.
As part of their responsibilities, our School Ambassadors have the tough job of judging various competitions and half-term homework challenges.

Our School Ambassadors have been busy – the building work, for the new equipment, has commenced on the school playground and they have had the important job of checking the designs!
The School Ambassadors have organised and supported Operation Christmas Child 2020.
This year we held a whole school ballot in which the children had a democratic style vote in privacy. They voted for two children to represent their class as a School Ambassador.
Three times per week, the ambassadors work hard to complete classroom tidiness checks that decide on the School Pride Award winners.
Last term, the ambassadors also held a whole school assembly to share with the rest of the school the ideas for our new, exiting ‘Achievement Assembly.’ Each week during this assembly, the ambassadors will choose a relevant news article that has an SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual, and Cultural Curriculum) element and other children will decide upon which value has been shown within the article.
