In the Autumn term, our Reception children will be settling into school life by building new relationships, developing their personal and social skills and settling in with the school and classroom routines. We will be focusing on early Phonic skills, practicing our listening and attention skills, rhyming, alliteration and oral segmenting and blending. We will also be focusing on our early Maths skills e.g. our counting principles, subitising and number problems up to 5. Our topic focusses are ‘Me and my World’ and ‘Sparkle and Shine’. The children will have opportunities to explore the world around them through outdoor exploration and exploring the change in seasons, drawing family portraits and celebrating and learning about the festivals, Christmas and Diwali. We have an array of carefully selected texts to immerse our children with a love of reading and to spark curiosity.
Pupils will be provided with a school reading book, this will be changed weekly by the teacher. Big Cat Collins reading books will be sent home and these will be required in school every day, with the Reading Record.
Reception children will be given their home learning challenges on Monday to be brought into school or sent in via Dojo the following Wednesday by 9.00am. Reading should be carried out daily to help your child improve their fluency.
All children are required to wear their full school uniform (including black school shoes) each day please, washed as much as possible. PE kits are necessary on your child’s set PE day, this will be a Thursday for Reception. The children should come to school on their PE day wearing their full PE kit. Please ensure your child’s name is in their uniform.
A Free School Meal (FSM) will be provided to those children who are entitled to one. Pupils in Reception and Key Stage One will receive a school meal, free of charge, under the Universal Infant Free School Meal (UIFSM) policy. All meals provided in school will be a choice of a healthy packed lunch or a hot meal. At this time, we will not be accepting any cash payments to provide your child with a school meal. As always, we remain a healthy school and would ask that you please do not send in fizzy drinks or sweets in your child’s lunch bag.
